I just received word that New Hampshire’s Pennichuck Brewing Company is closing its doors. The following statement was released yesterday by Phil Jewett, the brewery’s President,

This is our first initial announcement that Pennichuck Brewing Company of Milford, New Hampshire, will be closing for good. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the many family, friends, brewing professionals, industry professionals and especially our fans, for the pure enjoyment we had at Pennichuck creating and brewing our tasty concoctions.

No real reason given, obviously, for the brewery’s closing. And its hard to make any deductions from their website, which is one of the worst I’ve seen in the industry (so that itself might be an indication). The “company history” section of the website doesn’t work, so I can’t get any background on the brewery, nor have I had any of their beers, even though I’m in a neighboring state (again, another indication). But according to their Facebook page, it looks like they were founded in 2005 and have, or did, distribute throughout Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts New Hampshire and Vermont, and parts of Connecticut, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.

It’s always a bummer, of course, to hear of craft breweries having to close down, especially here in New England. I feel bad, too, for faulting them entirely on their website but if that alone is any barometer then the company’s demise can’t come as much of a surprise. Still, it’s sad news and I wish the folks at Pennichuck luck in whatever comes their way next.
