BrewSocial: Social Networking Application for the Beer Geek in all of Us

There seems to be a real social media theme going on in the world of blogaboutbeer.com this week - first all of the new beer-related iPhone applications, then the “crowdfunding”-based brewery BeerBankRoll. And today, to cap it off, a buddy of mine pointed out the (relatively) new BrewSocial (part of the LivingSocial network, which also includes TuneSocial, ReelSocail, and DiningSocial, among others) network. From what I’ve been able to gather, BrewSocial focuses on 5 specific functions - organize, discover, link, share & talk.
- Organize: A utility first and foremost, BrewSocial provides you the tools you need to keep your collection in order.
- Discover: We make recommendations based on your collection.
- Link: You can link your BrewSocial account to Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, HI5, and Orkut. We’ll place your collection on your profile.
- Share: BrewSocial connects to the social networks you already maintain so you don’t need to start from scratch.
- Talk: Each beer has its own discussion board and review wall.
I have yet to try the service myself but from the look of it - if you’re big into “social media” and beer, than this would be a fun application to play around with. And you may even discover some new beers! According to the LivingSocial homepage, more than 6 million people have signed up across their network (which again includes 6 different applications similar to BrewSocial) and those 6 million members have cataloged nearly 88 million items. If this sounds like something that might be up your alley, you can check it out at beer.livingsocial.com. Are you a member already? What do you think?
