A Beer for the Ladies
It was widely reported last month that figures showed [tag]beer[/tag] sales in pubs across the UK at their
lowest level for 70 years with sales supposedly down 49 per cent since they peaked in 1979. But one young [tag]entreprenuer[/tag] is doing her part to change all of that. That’s right, I said “her”.
[tag]Harriet Easton[/tag], 19, unveils Harry’s Beer tomorrow, a beer she says is targeted directly to female drinkers. Easton, a politics student at Newcastle university, told England’s The Observer,
“[tag]Real ale[/tag] has typically and consistently been marketed towards men with names full of cheesy puns and innuendo, and images of buxom wenches serving up frothy jugs. They can keep all that – there’s no need to move on, lads – just move over.”
Easton teamed up with a local brewery, Hanby Ales of Wem (whom I’m personally nominating for best name for a brewery, EVER), to create a beer designed for and marketed to women. After 18 months and £35,000 of research and development, the finished product is a light ale with extract of orange and a modest 4.2 per cent alcohol.
One can only hope that with success comes new haircuts…

Hi There. My name is Logan and I run BlogAboutBeer.com. I live just north of Portland, Oregon, which has the most craft breweries than any other city in the US. I'm a full time Internet marketer, blogger, and dad to the most beautiful girl in the world. I'm also a beer fanatic and enjoy trying new beers as well as homebrewing my own creations.

Have you tried it? I went to the Salopian the other day and it was mighty marvelous! I was worried that the concept was going to be stronger than the product, but Hanby have done the girl proud. The glasses are nice too.
I must ask, being a Shropshire lass I am used to the name Hanby, why is it such a great name for a brewery? Is it rude in Portugese or something like that?
